The apartment smelled like pumpkin pie, apple cider and spices. I was transported back to being 11 years old sitting at the kids’ table, stealing a bite before we all said grace.

Leah was in the kitchen washing her hands. She was in the cute little dress she often wore around the house on cleaning days. A time-softened blue cotton house dress, paired with thick knee-high black socks.

It was one of her most comfortable outfits and one that was the kind of simple, casual sexy that made me glad I asked her to move in with me.

I put the cans away and stood in the doorway to the kitchen with a determined frown, waiting for her to finish washing up.

She dried her hands with a towel and looked over at me, her demeanor changing from attentive chief to shy young lady in seconds. Her hands went behind her back and her eyes were cast down to her feet.

"What did we talk about? Making sure we list everything we need before a big party. Double checking our list a few days before,” I asked, trying to keep my voice stern even though she looked adorable.

"Yes, sir,” she mumbled.

"I think we are going to have to have a conversation about this,” I said and quickly made my way across the room to her.

She jumped as I grabbed her by the arm and pulled her out of the kitchen, into the living room. She whimpered and fought, but begrudgingly followed my lead.

She flashed a mischievous smile as she tried to wrestle out of my grip. It was good to see her slip a little when we played like that. Just making sure we were both totally on the same page. That I wasn’t actually mad at her, the sauce was just a fun excuse to spank her, something we both needed that morning. I gave her a wink in response.
