Laura Antoniou's consensual world of owners and slaves known as The Marketplace has been thrilling readers of BDSM fiction for over 25 years. In that time she has invited other authors to come "play in her sandbox" more than once. In this second anthology of "fanfiction" set in The Marketplace, 18 stories explore both familiar favorites and brand new characters, and delve into many of the themes that run through the series including service, sadomasochism, and the need to belong.

The authors range from award-winning novelists to fanfic veterans to bright-eyed new folks and their stories here run the gamut of genres including crime fiction, paranormal, and romance. Fans of erotic fiction may recognize the names of Elizabeth Schechter, LN Bey, Erzabet Bishop, and Soulhuntre.  Karen Taylor, an erotica writer and also Laura's wife, contributes an introduction to the volume, as well.

The stories just kept getting spicier. I thought that this was a great variety of stories and I enjoyed this book.

It’s been a hot minute since I’ve read a short story collection, and even longer since I’ve read The Marketplace. However, lack of familiarity with short story conventions was more of an impediment to my enjoyment of this book than was lack of familiarity with the Marketplace characters. I felt disappointed by how abruptly many of the stories ended, but that’s not a complaint against the authors. In the space of a short story, they were able to build characters and worlds that I just didn’t want to leave. The majority of the short stories felt like they could easily be expanded into novellas, if not full novels. And I would probably read the majority of those expansions if they were to happen. My lack of familiarity with the Marketplace did nothing to impede my understanding or enjoyment of the stories. I read enough in the genre that I’m familiar with the conventions. Although I did have the lingering suspicion that the stories would be a little richer if I understood the background of the characters who were imported from the Marketplace. Alexandra, Grendel, Imala Anderson, and Chris Parker often appeared in the stories, with very little background. There was enough context to help the story make sense, but very little more than that. I’ve never read fan fiction before; therefore, I was concerned that the stories might be repetitive or amateurish. They were neither. The collection embraced variety to the extent that the only common thread between the stories were an owner/slave relationship that traced back to the Marketplace. And they were each so well written and creative. Where else would you see Sherlock Holmes, an overweight librarian, and a shy tentacle beast in the same collection? Overall, the collection was definitely worth the few days that I invested in reading it. And I’ll probably add The Marketplace to my to be read queue, shortly after I finish my NetGalley queue and library reserves.

I"m a HUGE fan of anthologies and stories that involve the bdsm lifestyle. This book was fantastic.

I liked this anthology a lot. Each story had steam or hardcore heat. A lot of anthologies I read there tend to be more misses than hits but this one excels and delivers in each story.

If I want you to greet me in the way I'm about to demonstrate, I'll text you before I come home," I say. "As soon as I text you, I want you to come to this spot, kneel down, and put the collar around your neck.  The lead stays on the hook, and you are never to touch the handle of the leash.  I'm the only one who takes it off the hook, do you understand?"

"Yes, boss," Kelly says, almost whispering.

"I want you to come over here and assume the position as soon as I text and stay there for as long as it takes for me to come through the door.  That might be 30 seconds or it might be 20 minutes.  That's not up to you, and if I choose not to tell you how long it will be, that's my prerogative," I say.

I reach out and take the collar in my hands, unbuckling it while I speak.  "I want more than just you kneeling by the door when I arrive -- I want you kneeling by the door, having spent whatever time I've allowed you thinking about your role.  About your position relative to me.  About the fact that when you're kneeling naked by my door, connected by a leash to a hook on the wall that isn't yours to touch or take off, that you are exactly where you're supposed to be."

I brush the hair away, bending down to secure the collar around her neck.

"This is where you belong," I say. I look down on her.  Her chest rises and falls rapidly and her face is flushed.
