Why should I publish with Riverdale?
Riverdale edits your book (and most books need editing), does copy editing, gives you a professional cover, an ISBN number, multi-platform formatting, and uploads to sellers (we sell to 95 epub merchants via leading digital book distributors), creates a paperback/trade version of your book for Print on Demand (POD) sales, seeks licenses for audio rights for our titles, and represents your foreign and film rights. And we bring our reputation and publicity machine to your title. We work collaboratively with you to bring your book to publication.
Can I post Reviews on your site and what are the guidelines?
Riverdale's Review section is for expressing your honest opinions about books. Reviews should be relevant and thought provoking (positive and negative) when they visit a book page. Creativity and objectivity make good reviews while reviews that suggest the genre was just not for you, or that are off-topic, that attack other reviews, that are not original or that are predominantly about an author’s behavior and not about the book will be deleted or edited. We may add reviews about our books from other websites, whether in whole or in part. Riverdale reserves the right to remove a review at any time for any reason. It is at our sole discretion and no one else's, that we decide when a review is against our guidelines. Reviews posted on Riverdale's website are individual and subjective opinions. The opinions expressed in reviews are those of the readers of the book and not of Riverdale Avenue Books LLC and we do not endorse any of the opinions expressed by reviewers.
Do I need an agent to have my book published by Riverdale?
No, you do not have to have an agent. However you may want to have an agent represent you. Riverdale is not your agent as we are the publisher of your book.
Will I receive a publishing contract from Riverdale?
Yes, Riverdale and you will enter into a Publishing Contract once we have accepted your title.
Will I receive an advance?
No. We are a royalty-earning publisher with generous epub, audio, and POD royalty rates. We pay our authors quarterly for sales for which we have received royalties on during the prior quarterly period.
Will you consider previously published material?
As long as the rights have reverted and you can show us proof of such, we are happy toreview previously published material. We want to see lost classics get back in print.
If you have a short story with nonexclusive world rights, we might be interested in reprinting it in one of our anthologies. We do calls for stories for anthologies from time to time so please contact us to be put on our mailing list.
How should I submit my manuscript?
Please visit our Submissions Guidelines at the top of the website. In brief, please send a query letter describing your work first. If you are unpublished, we require the entire manuscript. If you are published, we will ask for the first three chapters and an outline for fiction, a proposal for nonfiction. All submissions should be sent as Word document, double-spaced in 12 point Times Roman. Please send your work to submissions@RiverdaleAveBooks.com.
How soon after my book is accepted will it be published?
Certain titles can be published within 3 months of the beginning the editing process, while some others can be scheduled and published for periods longer than that. Timing will depend generally on your scheduling and ours, market timing and your active involvement and availability in working the book through with your editor. We are capable of a quick turnarounds where it's beneficial from a market entry perspective for current pop culture and news-related topics. After a publishing contract is executed, we will let you know when a publication date is available and our general thoughts on timing and we will let you know should those expectations materially change. We will most be in constant communication when your book begins the editing process and is queued for a publication date. Finally, when we do POD and audio versions, they are usually published simultaneously.
